DAT-daddy
$79.95 per year/user – Excel add-in to import and export Concordance DAT files
Have you ever wanted an easy way to edit DAT files? Most of us use Excel, but the Excel standard text import/export does not work with Concordance delimiters. DAT-daddy solves this problem by installing a special add-in for Excel to import and export DAT files easily. Configure it to use standard delimiters, or use custom delimiters found in your DAT files. DAT-daddy makes it as easy as “import”, “manipulate”, “export” – DONE!
DAT-daddy itself has no limitations, but Excel does. A single cell in Excel can contain up to 32,767 characters. If importing a DAT file with a field longer than this limit, DAT-daddy will log an error (indicating the cell location) and not import the field. Excel’s other limits are 1,048,576 rows by 16,384 columns. These will be your DAT file document and field limits as well.
No, the trial version is fully operational without activation. However, it is limited to importing/exporting only 10 documents. Once a copy is purchased you will receive an activation key on your invoice. Use that to lift all restrictions.
After purchasing a copy of the program; go into the Excel DAT-daddy tab and click on the Activate button. This will display an activation dialog box. Just enter the activation key you received on your invoice and hit “Activate”. The software is licensed per year/user. Successfully activating will eliminate all limitations in the demo version and the About box will show days remaining in your license.
DAT-daddy supports Excel 2010 and up.
MAP-daddy
$49.95 per year/user – add-in for drive mapping and directory listings
Windows has a problem with long paths. Anything over 256 characters is a problem. If you process documents you know it. We get around it by mapping a drive to a sub-folder to shorten the path or lop off the parent folder from the full path that gets picked up by the metadata. How do you map your drives? Windows Explorer | click folder | pick the portion of the path you need | then use the right-click Map network drive… option? Yup – I did too until I figured an easier way. MAP-daddy is that way! Select a folder, right-click, map drive. It’s that simple. Pick any drive letter available or configure a default you use frequently.
And, if you don’t like doing directory listings the old fashion way, well MAP-daddy solves that too. Right-click | MAP-daddy | Dir List, either root or recursive – and you get a complete list of files in .CSV format. Bring into Excel, manipulate it and DAT-daddy export it to a DAT file. Wow, couldn’t be easier.
And, how about setting the folder “title” attribute to make it easier to identify? Yup MAP-daddy does it all!
